Earlier in 2024, Titian launched the latest release of Mosaic Sample Management Software - Mosaic 9.1.
With each release of Mosaic, we strive to add great new features that align with our customers needs and the latest advancements in the industry, be it an integration with new equipment, a new way to weigh your compounds or an update to assay requesting functionality.
With each new feature released, we try to benefit the end user as much as possible! Here are 5 new features in Mosaic and what they mean for Mosaic users:
1) Weighing Voice Control (Beta)
Mosaic has integrated with weighing processes for some time, allowing scientists to capture the data from the balance as they work, but it has previously involved the need to click buttons on the screen or use the mouse to control Mosaic.
Introduced as a beta in Mosaic 9.1, Weighing by Voice turns the Mosaic weighing interface buttons into voice commands so that operators can concentrate on weighing, knowing that all the data is being captured in the Mosaic Sample Management Software platform. Learn more >>
See how it works:
One of the key benefits this brings is a reduced contamination risk as while weighing out the substance, there's no need to touch anything else that could be contaminated!
2) Discrete Units
In Mosaic 9.1 new discrete units have been added and the unit is no longer just default but is configured per substance type.
These discrete units are shown on all inventory pages, including the search and audit, and provide a more flexible solution when working with different sample and consumable types.
Examples of how the new discrete units in Mosaic could be used:
- For biologicals, you could use 'slices' for tissue
- For consumable labware, you could have an 'items' unit for multiwell plates or gloves
- In agroscience, you could have a 'seeds' unit for seeds
The benefit to the end user is more accurate inventory tracking and labelling based on the sample or consumable being tracked.
3) Multi-Source Ordering
New to both the Advanced and Simple Ordering modules, Mosaic now allows operators to fulfill orders from multiple sources for each output stream.
With this new feature, ordering in Mosaic now provides a few different source fulfilment options:
- Single – Fulfil each line item from a single source for all output streams
- Per-Output – Allow a different source per output stream for each line item
- Multiple – Allow fulfilment from multiple sources for each output stream (outputs not pooled)
With the update to ordering, it's also possible to set up a default value per stream template, so only the desired option can be seen by the requestor.
4) New Standard Inventory Alerts
Mosaic has a flexible notifications system, which allows notifications to be triggered for almost any type of event and now, new for Mosaic 9.1 installations, two new standard inventory alert notifications will be configured out of the box:
- Substance Expiry - Send an email when a substance is within a specified number of days of reaching its expiry date.
- Low Inventory Level - Send an email when the total number of tubes in inventory of a
substance falls below a specified number.
5) Ad Hoc Solubilisation
When viewing a tube in Mosaic, the solubilise button allows the user to specify that a volume of solvent that has been added and Mosaic then calculates and assigns the concentration to the solubilised tube.
In Mosaic 9.1, the Ad Hoc Solubilisation functionality has been updated to include:
- Volume is specified (Concentration is calculated)
- Concentration is specified (Volume is calculated)
This supports the use case where a scientist has a neat tube from which they wish to
prepare a fresh solution. They can simply scan the barcode, enter the desired concentration and Mosaic will tell you how much solvent to add.
